Weatherization Works

The Mission of the Weatherization Program is to enhance the well-being of low-income residents, particularly those persons who are most vulnerable such as the elderly, the handicapped and children, through the installation of energy efficiency and energy-related health and safety measures, thus benefiting clients through reduced energy bills, enhanced comfort and the relief from energy-related health risks.

HOW DOES WEATHERIZATION WORK? After client eligibility is determined, our Weatherization Inspector will conduct an energy audit on the home.  Diagnostic equipment is used to identify air infiltration, pressure imbalances and areas of heat loss.  He will evaluate related health and safety conditions as well.  Based on the results of this audit, a weatherization contractor will install the most cost-effective efficiency measures at no cost to the client.  The client will be informed about the tests performed, measures installed, how to maintain the measures and ways to further reduce energy use.

Eligibility Rules:

A household is eligible if:

-The household is receiving FIP or SSI regardless of income.

-The household’s income is at or below, 200% of the Federal Poverty Level.

-The household is eligible for LIHEAP.

All clients approved for LIHEAP are automatically applied for Weatherization
